^ Compiled by members of the doll community. Mijn Schatje is a semi-famous artist oft praised for her artwork, when in reality they are merely tracings of photos that do NOT belong to her, and she does not have permission to use them.
Because the BJD community is so small, she has been able to get away with this - her works are displayed in art galleries and she is making money off them, either via prints or as merchandise such as laptop skins, etc.
This is not right.
....
Also. I think I need to kick the way I draw in the head. I'm experiencing style failure.

Oblivious.
Some of those overlays are very misleading. It's hard to tell because of the photos (what with them being in 3D and all) but the lines don't always match which leads me to question if the artist really didn't just use these images as reference.
That said, no, I don't label this artist as an Art Thief, even if she did trace those dolls. Why? Because the end result is that she clearly personalizes her work, and even if she did a bit of tracing it was clearly used as a means to better represent a part of her work; she wasn't necessarily stealing the subject or the mood of the photos. Tracing is only really a problem when the tracer clearly wanted to re-represent the entire artwork it was tracing, as in stealing its concepts, it's subjects, it's ambiance etc (unless it was for study reasons of course). Here the artist just used Doll faces as a part of her picture but to create something completely different, which imo and from what I've been taught is actually ok. Although I will admit that this is very much subject to debate.
I mean, what about collages? It's a form of art which uses existing photos/images only and gathers the lot together to create a new, original art piece. This is very much like what this artist is doing, and she's a lot more tamer.
Then again I find the artist's conduct pretty stupid and overall lousy - yes she could have cited her sources but that isn't evne the issue, it's her just not justifying her way of work. She's not very good at defending herself I find.
Also, the elements in her work may not entirely be hers - many of them are cliparts or vector works done by other artists, and in one of them, there's a silhouette of a Totoro. Studio Ghibli has already been contacted about this and if she did ask permission to use their character, it's alright. But if she has not, it's not okay because what she is doing is not fanart.
